Blue October for Parkinson’s UK

Blue October for Parkinson’s UK

Here at Sonny’s, community spirit is at the core of everything we do. This month, Secret Supper for Parkinson’s UK was due to go ahead. This multi-dining experience would’ve taken place around Colmore Row but has unfortunately been cancelled due to Covid-19.

As sponsors of the event, we didn’t want it to just be forgotten about. For many charities much of their income comes from fundraising events. This means they’re losing out on vital funds, used to enhance medical research and offer support to those who need it.

To raise awareness and hopefully some money for our chosen charity, we decided to turn our social media feeds blue for October!

We may not be able to enjoy Secret Supper, but we could all donate the price of a drink to a good cause this winter.

Here’s a little more information…

Who are Parkinson’s UK?

Parkinson’s UK is a charity that supports those living with Parkinson’s, a progressive neurological condition.

Through pioneering medical research, they hope to one day find a cure. But until then, the charity does great work to help people live with the condition and support their families too. Without this vital support, many people would feel alone and be unable to get the help they need.

This is why spreading awareness of the great work they do is so important.

What is Parkinson’s?

Parkinson’s develops when cells in the brain stop working properly and are lost over time. It is a progressive neurological condition that gets worse over time. People with Parkinson’s don’t have enough of the chemical dopamine, because the nerve cells that make it have died.

This is when symptoms start to show, as the brain can no longer control movement properly. These symptoms include tremors, slowness of movement and rigidity – though there are many more.

There are lots of different treatments, therapies and support available to help manage the condition. Information on such can be accessed via the Parkinson’s UK website.

The information and support they provide isn’t just for those with Parkinson’s, it’s for friends and family too. It can be hard to know what to do when a loved one is diagnosed with Parkinson’s – so the charity provides a vital support network for the whole family.

How can I help?

At a time where fundraising events are at an all-time low, charities are struggling to raise vital funds. The best thing we can do to help Parkinson’s UK, is to donate if possible and raise awareness for the charity. By raising awareness, more people can gain access to support, and hopefully more money can be donated to fund such.
